A Systematic Study on the Effect of Social Story on the Effect of Social Story Intervention for Individual with Autism Spectrum Disorder

Abstract
Purpose : This study aims to provide an easy to understand study on the effects of social story interventions for autism spectrum disorders.

Methods : Using Google Scholar search, studies published from 2011 to December 2020 were searched. The keywords were ¡®Autism spectrum disorder¡¯ AND ¡®social story¡¯, and a total 12 studies were selected. Inclusion studies consisted of 10 single subject design studies and 2 RCTs. Inclusion studies were analyzed according to population, intervention, outcome measures and results.

Results : Infancy and adolescents were the most for the age of the study subjects. The result of analyzing the interventions, they were often mixed with other interventions. In particular, the most common intervention was video modeling was followed by photo-based social stories. Investigators and teachers were the most frequent intervention providers. Non-standardized assessment tools were used as an outcome measures, and there were many observations on target behavior and problem behavior.

Conclusion : This study is organized so that individuals with ASD, families, researchers, and therpists can easily understand the effects of social narrative intervention on ASD, and therapists can use it as basic data for evidence-based practice.
